Spinning from the fold is a technique that works very well on longer fibers as well as slippery fibers. Beth starts spinning with the worsted technique then moves to using the long draw method (a woolen technique) on her spinning wheel. She also demonstrates how to spin from the fold using a drop spindle.

According to the notes on Spindilicity, when you spin from the fold with a combed top preparation, you can get a lofty yarn, much like you would get when you use a carded wool preparation.
